In the world of cryptocurrencies there are 2 algorithms being used. SHA-256 and scrypt. The difference between those 2 are that scrypt is faster and more secure.
Bitcoin uses SHA-256 and Litecoin uses scrypt. If you were about to send litecoins from 1 wallet to another the transaction would be more faster with Litecoins then with Bitcoins. That's why Litecoin became the second most popular coin after Bitcoin.
As from today the price of 1 BTC(Bitcoin) = $70,70
Litecoin goes from today from a price of 1 LTC(Litecoin) = $2,43
You can also compare this with their own networkdifficulty.
Bitcoins are of more value, because they are more difficult to mine cause of their network difficulty. That why the prices are higher then Litecoins.
